Which state is the hottest in the USA during the winter?

 Florida and Hawaii are the most consistent winners for winter heat. While Southern California offers beautiful sunny days, the ocean stays chilly. For true swimming weather in January or February, Miami, the Florida Keys, and any of the Hawaiian Islands offer the highest average temperatures, typically ranging from 24°C to 27°C (75°F to 80°F).

The Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico in Florida are significantly warmer than the Pacific Ocean in California. In the summer, Florida waters can reach a bathtub-like 29°C (85°F). In contrast, the California Current brings cold water down from the north, meaning even in San Diego, the water rarely rises above 21°C (70°F) without a wetsuit.

Hawaii is a year-round destination, but for the absolute best balance of heat and low rainfall, aim for April through October. The “winter” months (November to March) are still very warm but see more localized rain showers, particularly on the “lush” (northern) sides of the islands.

 If you are heading to Santa Monica, San Diego, or Malibu in early summer, you may encounter “June Gloom.” This is a weather pattern where a thick marine layer of fog keeps the coast cool and overcast until mid-afternoon. If you want guaranteed all-day coastal sun, late July, August, and September are the hottest and clearest months in SoCal.
